As a great, great nephew of John Smith (of Tadcaster brewery fame) Sebastian received an early induction into the world of wine via Saccone & Speed, a division of Courage Brewing who had taken over the family business. Moving on to Lanson Champagne in the early 80s, Sebastian gained in-depth experience of selling and shipping premium wines, plus the knowledge and contacts that inspired him to form Smith & Taylor in 1986.

Laurent was born in Alsace into a family that has produced generations of wine lovers. Several of his cousins own vineyards in the Champagne region so Laurent grew up with an innate understanding of wine production, storage and handling. Laurent moved to the UK in 1998 and has worked for Smith & Taylor ever since.
